yakitate! ja-pan

February 19th, 2008

Sorry for such long hiatus. Didn’t have time to make any review on any animes. However I’ve watched lots of them during the hiatus period and one of them was Yakitate! Ja-Pan.

Azuma and his gang

First of all, it is a story that completely involve the food called breads. Yes, the very bread that you eat everyday. The title “Yakitate!” means “Freshly Baked” and Ja-Pan is supposedly represents the national bread of Japan, which will be explained further later on. And Pan is a Japanese word for bread.

It is a story about a young Japanese boy named Azuma Kazuma who was at first disliked bread because the regular meal that he always had was rice. And one day her sister had forced him to eat one of the breads in a bakery shop that was just recently opened in the neighbourhood.

And from that moment the boy was exposed by the delightful taste of breads and later on, bit by bit became interested to learn on how to create one along with the owner of the of bakery shop. And later he came to realize that the are many types of breads that represents their countries such as French Bread, German Bread and Italian Bread, but there is no bread that represents Japan. From this thought he aimed into making one (Ja-Pan)

But at the same time he learned to know that he possessed a great gift in making breads which is the dream to have for every bakers, that is the legendary Solar Hands, which was actually a pair of hands that are a lot more warmer than a normal human hands temperature. In bread baking business, with the use of Solar Hands allows the dough that is used to making bread to ferment faster.

The story goes on until he grew older and later on set out on a journey to discover the world breads by first going to the famous bread maker in Japan called Pantasia. From there he gained friends and battled out with other great bakers in order to achieve one step closer in realizing his goal, in making the ultimate bread, Ja-Pan.

Eyeshield 21

January 12th, 2007

The main character in this story, Kobayakawa Sena, who was always being bullied and picked on since his childhood days because of his weak physical appearance, but his best friend who is older than her by a year (or rather the girl of his dreams, because he always have a heart for her) Mamori, whom he referred to as “Mamori-Neechan” always comes to the rescue. But little that he know of, during the moment that he always been bullied, he had unintentionally developed a skill to run fast and at the same time learn to avoid from being caught with the group of bullies. Eventually these skills will earn him to make through the American football team.

Even in his high school days that he still continuously experiencing the same situation, until one day that skill of his was being noticed by the captain of an American football team of the school, known as the Deimon Bats, Hiruma Youichi (the captain) who was also at that time happened to be looking for new recruits for the team. Currently there were only 2 members in the team at that time, this include Hiruma and also Kurita Ryoukan. And later on Sena, against his will was forced to join the team, but his identity had to be kept secret from being exposed to other team opponents. It is at this moment the nick Eyeshield 21, (eyeshield for the visor placed on the helmet to avoid Sena from being recognized, and 21 for the player’s number. It also carries the same name with some famous American football player) was given to Sena. At first he is a little bit awkward, in spite of his weak experience, but given both his strong pair of legs, and strong motivational factor, in time he learns how to familiarize with the game style, and the number of players in team eventually increases too.

Mamori protecting Sena from being scolded by Hiruma (Kurita at the back)

Hiruma & Sena, Hiruma was called “demon” because of how well he knows about the details of every person in the school, and also he owns a so-called “devil’s handbook”, which was rather humorous

Shin & Sena…arch rival in terms of speed

This story is rather interesting, because the story expands although in a little bit slow in pace. Sena and the entire team will eventually meet some formidable foes in each games in their quest for the Christmas Bowl (the climax for the American football championship) and they had to undergo some tough obstacles to improve the teams’ performance. The series is still ongoing. All and all 4.5 out of 5 stars is suitable enough for this Anime.
